With June upon us and strong spring storms continuing to blow through Florida, it’s time to prepare for hurricane season.

That’s why we’ve developed a protocol for responding to power issues for large-scale organizations like yours, which includes an advanced outage-reporting system and an exclusive storm restoration line.
 
When developing your hurricane response plan, keep the following important information in mind.

The fastest way to report a power outage is through our automated outage reporting system. If you lose power, call 1-800-228-8485. As a storm approaches, your Account Executive will send detailed information regarding Progress Energy’s storm response plan.

Be prepared: Ten tips for hurricane season
Here are ten important steps to follow when preparing your organization’s storm response plan. 
  1. Monitor local radio or television stations for official emergency information and instructions. 
  2. Have our Outage Reporting number – 1-800-228-8485, and our Storm Outage Restoration number –1.866.269.8263 handy. 
  3. Identify merchandise, equipment or property that could easily be damaged by wind or water damage from a significant storm or hurricane, then create a plan to relocate or protect these items.
  4. Determine and establish written hurricane protective procedures for your business property and conduct drills or training with employees to review these procedures.
  5. Have a plan in place to communicate with your employees, customers, and suppliers.
  6. Have a least one working analog or fully-charged cell phone. If a power outage occurs, digital and electrical phones will not work.
  7. Discuss and establish backup security procedures. Remember, if a power outage occurs, alarm systems will not work without backup power.
  8. Protect your equipment with surge protection devices and make sure your have proper grounding of power, telephone and cable systems.
  9. Establish plans to protect computer files, records or vital equipment (e.g. a backup system to secure and store data).
  10. Identify roles and responsibilities of key individuals for recovery and restoration after the storm.
