Annual I-Drive 5K Benefits YMCA Aquatic Center - Learn to Swim
The 9th Annual I-Drive 5K Run on May 7, 2011 raised $13,250 to benefit the YMCA Aquatic Center Learn to Swim Scholarship program. More than 1,325 runners and walkers were on hand at 7:30 a.m. at Pointe Orlando for the run, which was followed by a Kids Dash at 8:45 a.m. The I-Drive community gets involved in this 3.1 mile run through the heart of I-Drive each year by rallying their employees together to participate in this worthy event. Sixty I-Drive partners sponsored the 5K with either monetary donations, in-kind services or prizes for the top winners.

Each year the Central Florida YMCA teaches aquatics and swim safety to more than 17,000 children locally, at twenty-seven pools in a six county area. Through this fund, children, families, and seniors receive YMCA scholarships so that they can participate in these health and character-based programs during periods of financial challenge. The goal for our 10th year race in 2012 is to raise $15,000 for the program.
The check was presented to the YMCA board of directors meeting on June 8, 2011. Sponsors included Int'l Drive Improvement District, Pointe Orlando, Peabody Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, Visit Orlando, Rosen Hotels, Gatorland, Crown Plaza Hotel Universal, Hilton Orlando, DoubleTree by Hilton SeaWorld, Wyndham Orlando Resort, Mears Transportation,Orange County Fire and Rescue, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Denny’s Restaurant, Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant, Walgreens, Radisson WorldGate Resort and Whole Foods.
